Cultivating Thankfulness
I. The Lepers
a. Luke 17:11-19
b. The term “leprosy” 55 times in the OT, 13 times in the NT.
c. Hansen’s disease, for many centuries, leprosy was considered a curse.
d. A disease of the nervous system
e. Far beyond the physical, it made them social outcasts.
f. “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” As they went, they were cleansed.
g. One man responded very differently than the others.
h. Of all the people to come back and find Jesus…a Samaritan??
II. Speedbumps
a. Why is it so hard to be thankful?
b. In fact, often it can be really hard to be thankful.
c. We know God commands us to be thankful in all things, but
sometimes it’s just plain hard.
